Sense should return the total number of players logged in, in addition to it's current output, i.e.
You sense 14 total awakened souls in the city of dreams. You sense the most dreamers in....

I like this idea. Even if it were the top two planes and "There are 14 dreamers currently in 5 other planes," that might be a good way to get people moving around the city.

I like this idea too. Overall I would say that knowing how many people are online would make for a better experience.
1) I logged on the other day and Thresh was top with two other planes being sensed. I ran through Thresh to find out I was the only one there. Which meant that each of the other planes probably only has one person each as well.
2) Sometimes there's two planes on sense, you and someone else. Now you know you're alone, but have no idea who or how many others are on the only other plane on sense. If I know that there's one person, then I might not bother to go interact. However, if there are 2 or 3 people, then there's an increased probability that I'll stay logged on and venture out to meet them.
3) Let's be real, everybody wants to know how many people are online.
