Crowdsourced Marketing via Social Media

Post by Raas »

Hey fam,

In an effort to boost awareness of the game, it may behoove some of you, who are so inclined, to utilize social media. The Gm team has done a bit of this over the last year with youtube recordings and live streams, etc. but efforts coordinated by players can have greater impacts than centralized efforts.

Some guidelines:
1) Avoid spoilers - if its not public knowledge in-game, don't broadcast it.
2) Visuals are great - People are visual creatures, try to include screencaps where applicable. I'll usually use paint to crop the UI.
3) Tease and show, but don't tell. The idea is that you want newbies to recognize that there are things to discover in the UL world. That curiosity can motivate them to check it out.
4) Much like the forums, don't have in-game discussions in an OOC platform.
5) Retweet/Repost related stuff. If there are multiple UL accounts reposting each other's stuff, the ecosystem looks more robust to outsiders.

On platforms:
1) FB now sucks for engagement.
2) Instagram and Twitter are really where its at. I haven't made a UL related Instagram yet but it's on the agenda.
3) Follow people in the Roleplaying demographic. We want folks that are interested in RPGs.
4) Use Steam and RPG/DND related tags, those get lots of eyeballs.

For an example of how this might look on a house level, check out this twitter: https://twitter.com/ChosenUl

This could work just as well on an individual player level. You could do a visual journal, short snippets showcasing your character's story. That sort of thing.

PS - GM's, it may behoove the team to elaborate on some social media rules in the future, but it may also be covered by current rules, not sure.
