The Returning

Post by jtbadn »

The long coat hangs heavy on him from the inclement weather upon his Shard. His looks out with a curious daze and remains featureless and unmoving. It has been going on like this for several autrang, which is about 90 dawns.

The Prophet’s departure from the City of Dreams happened abruptly and was not by his choosing. The Scrying Prophet, Belom had left the Monastery of Shadows briefly in order to experience something with N’moto, and Anyasha. The latter of the two aforementioned was an Idoaclesian dreamer like himself. Perhaps it was never meant for him, suppose it was.

It mattered little to him now because whatever that was, he could not recall it. Clearly there was something different about Belom. Dream after dream he would arrive at the gates to the City and he would stand there in a daze, unmoving and seemingly affected by something with a great hold on him. Never would he approach the gates any longer. What was keeping the Prophet away all this time?

There is assuredly something to be said about the Prophet’s Shard as it was from this place that caused Belom to remain in this state of catalepsy. What did happen there? The truth is that Belom was a Master at his own craft. His duties were to protect the Cities from the wicked, defilement, upset. To better understand it, Belom acted as a bulwark for the citizens through his craft and defended against the chaos upon his shard.

There comes a time however where a Master can choose to put away the physical… reagents if you will and choose for himself a Clelft. This is an item that holds great meaning for the Master and in his case, Belom held a small hand mirror whose face was painted darkly and if you were to gaze upon it yourself you would see things that seem to exist inside the mirror itself. Some see smoke billowing, others see fire and some see water. Gaze upon this looking glass long enough and you will see visions and will recall the events os such quite eidetically and with great recall. Choosing the Clelft is the easy part in the process of when a Master chooses to become Pellaru.

The Pellaru, as they are called on his Shard, are few in number. They can perform fantastical, great and certainly mighty things and there is none better to have on your side. At the end of the four Autrang there is a huge celebration that carries on for about five dawns and five dusks. All people upon his Shard celebrate this time which they call Planetarus. It was named as such because of the alignment that the Prophet’s Shard Takes with two other worlds and they form a great eclipse. This eclipse, Planetarus, has always come to pass between the last few moons and the first few moons of the calendar year. Such abundant feast and wonderful performances are planned for the Shardwide celebration. There is wonderful dancing and songs and of course games are played in every borough and in every city.

During this time only can a Master decide to become a Pellaru and it was not terribly long ago that the Prophet Belom made that very choice. In order to become Pellaru, the Master must undergo a series of test, a show of feats and lastly, the Master must partake in the venom. Like the City of Dreams, upon Belom’s Shard there are both light and dark. Those in the southern peninsula are known as the Darkworlders and they are very chaotic. From that place many great beasts can be found but none as fearsome as the Drake, or you may know this sort of beast as a wyvern or dragon. One could argue that Nightmares, or Dark Mares, resemble this creature. This beast has a poison in its bite you see. That’s what the Master’s must ingest, only at the time of Planetarus as the venom is most potent at this time.

Some Master’s do not make it through the Pellaru Trials. Others awaken with attributes they had never had before such as the development of a lisp or sometimes a much more defined impairment. It is not always with the speech. Some Pellaru awaken blinded and never to see the light again. Others cannot properly use some part of their limbs and yet there are a few Pellaru who emerge without any trouble at all. Belom was not one of these Pellaru. Belom had slipped into a coma, which is a common occurrence with Master’s who sip the Drake’s venom. Even in his comatose state, the Prophet finds his way to the City of Dreams but he only ever makes it to the archway that leads him to the cities corridors. It is here, dawn after dawn, dusk after dusk can Belom be found.

He gazes blankly before him. He never moves, he merely materializes before the gate and eventually dematerializes back to whence he came. Something about him seems, it feels different when he enters now and when he leaves. It feels … familiar. Keep watching the portals of the City all of you Dreamers of Underlight. Soon the Prophet may return.
