What does it mean to be Free ?

I have decided to remain in, the state of being a "FreeSpirit".

Freedom is defined as:

"The power or right to act, speak, or think as one wants without hindrance or restraint."

"The state of not being imprisoned or enslaved."

Though these things are true in the literal sense, let us break it down shall we?

"The power or right to act, speak, or think as one wants without hindrance or restraint."

Even though this is a text book definition of "Freedom" it is not always the correct or proper choice.
The phrase "without hindrance or restraint" is rather frightening to me, as I believe as mature human beings we all need to know restraint.
Just because you CAN say and do whatever you want, does not mean that you SHOULD always say or do whatever you want.

Unfortunately, many cannot seem to make that distinction.

Order, structure and discipline are all needed in any society in order for it to function without being in a constant state of complete and utter chaos and anarchy.

"The state of not being imprisoned or enslaved."

I have been both imprisoned and enslaved, literally and physically, however these words can and do often have a much deeper meaning.

We become imprisoned in our own thoughts and minds, even in our bodies. Imrisoned by thoughts of inadequacy, low self esteem, feeling that we are not doing "enough".
We become enslaved by societies expectations of us. As Freespirits, often shunned for being"fence sitters", though I say to you, I would rather sit on a fence than become a part of a collective that is not the right fit for me.

It is up to you to break these chains in your own lives and dreams. Be free if you must, but do it responsibly, maturely, and retain your sense of purpose. Set an example for yourself and those around you, as you never know...

who may be looking to you as inspiration.
