Yauch's Early Dreams

Post by Ennvon »

First Dream

Yauch's last memory was falling asleep on a park bench, with nothing more than a thin sweater to guard him against the cold pre-winter winds.

He drifted through a myriad of dreams, each making less sense than the last, until he finally became lucid, "This is a dream?" he told himself as he inspected the strange scenery, yet the words hung on his tongue as a question rather than a conviction.

Grey cobblestone rested under his feet, and he was surrounded by grayish gold walls. He stepped forward, up a small flight of stairs, and onto a square platform with a brightly lit torch placed on each of its corners. Once his feet were planted, he slowly spun around to take in the scenery. There were many archways, and each had two flags on either of its sides. The flags, along with the stone at the top of the archway, housed a strange symbol which seemed to him like ancient hieroglyphics.

Yauch felt quiet overwhelmed by the majestic scenery, and he turned back in the direction he had come from. Down the steps was a short pathway which lead into an opening in the stone wall. At the end of this opening was door filled with a grey energy that swirled around a small red dot. He approached the door with some trepidation, and extended a curious hand forward when he arrived a foot in front of it. The moment his hand touched the energy, his surroundings blackened, then shifted entirely.

His eyes settled on the fountain a few steps in front of him. It had several layers of flowing water, which originated like rain drops from small, mystical clouds that hung a few feet above it.

His admiration of this fountain was interrupted the sound of voices which were not far in the distance. His eyes followed the lead of his ears, and eventually landed on the source of the voices.

He approached cautiously, and remained silent as the people discussed matters unrelated to him. He found that some of them were like him, and entirely unfamiliar with the strange dream space. He wondered if they were really people at all, or just figments of his subconscious.

"Where am I?" he eventually built the courage to ask.

In response to his question, a woman with lavender hair and azure eyes, dressed in a style reminiscent of a dominatrix, stepped forward gave him a friendly smile that seemed to clash awkwardly with her sense of style. "Ye be in Underlight, a world of dreams."

This did not do much to resolve his question, so he responded with some vague words, "I see."

"I'm Purple Lace, what is ye name?" She asked with a grin.

"I don't remember my name." He answered, his voice weak and timid. Outside of the world of dreams, he had been homeless for several months, and he couldn't remember any of his past before this time.

The woman stepped closer and sniffed deeply, causing his heart to palpitate, "Ye name be Yauch." she informed him, before muttering something about his scent.

The awkward conversation continued for awhile, and he gained a tiny understanding of the dream world before being offered a tour. He didn't want to look a gift horse in the mouth, and hesitantly accepted.

Perhaps in order to instill a sense of humility in Yauch, Purple Lace first guided him to a plane which contained a NightMare. There, he learned how to conjure his DreamBlade, and how to store the essence of a slain NightMare inside a Chaos Well.

He was then guided back into Threshold, the City of Dreams, to discover more of the houses, the term used for a collective which shares an ideal and occupies its own territory. He was overwhelmed by the city at first, as each room had the same design, outside of some superficial things such as colour, and his lead was moving rather quickly, leaving little time for careful attention or mental mapping.

She introduced him to several fellow dreamers belonging to the various houses during this time. Each of these people was a unique character, and he felt a tad overwhelmed parsing through the information they gave him. Nonetheless, he felt he had a slightly better understanding of this place when the task was completed.

After introductions, he was lead down to the Pits under the threshold. He conjured the DreamBlade, and used it, quite sloppily, to hunt a few NightMares on his own as per his guides instructions. When he reconvened with her a few minutes later, he felt that he had become a bit stronger.

From there, she lead him to the dueling arena, a place for Dreamers to spar in relative safety, before teaching him about the other skills he had access to, and providing some insight regarding the various items in the dream. When this process came to an end, he felt that it was time to awaken.

Second Dream

When he entered the dream for the second time, he moved quickly through the welcoming center, provenance, and into Threshold. He had resolved to spend some time exploring the city himself, in order to tak his time and form a general layout in his head.

He was surprised to find that the layout, which had seemed labyrinthine the night before, now seemed quite simple. It was a circle of rooms connected by hallways, and each of the rooms lead into the territory of the house it stood for.

The hallways between these rooms were not empty, either. They occasionally contained stairs going up, or stairs going down. Those going up, Yauch found, led either to the library of dreams, or Provenance, the field which connects to the welcome center.

As for the stairs going down, they led to a place he had previously visited, the Pits. Since he had acquainted himself with the layout of Threshold, he decided to turn his attention to the pits next. It was filled with the lowest level NightMare, Emphants, and seemed like a suitable place to increase my power.

His mapping went smoothly, from otherworldly crystalline caves to the endless hallways of a maze, he committed it all to paper, and much to his memory. When he finished this endeavour, he turned his attention to hunting the emphants in the area with which he was now intimately acquainted.

Third Dream

During his third dream, Yauch met a teacher in training by the name of Stormy Edwards. As part of her training, she was holding a class for newly awakened dreamers (he himself found, and still finds, the phrase to be an oxymoron, but such is the nomenclature that was used) and I decided to take part.

This class elaborated on most of the fundamentals that he had learned two dreams prior. What was most useful was discovering the reasons that the talismans differed in colour. He committed what he could of the colours significance to memory. With this, his previously overwhelming bag had become much more manageable.

At this point, he was at Orbit 9, and his strength could not progress any further. As such, he decided to use the rest of his time to improve all of his arts to their maximum potential before preparing to advance to the first sphere, something he had been advised of by Purple Lace during his first dream, and again by Stormy Edwards during her class.

Fourth Dream

His fourth dream occurred on the same day as my third, when most had already awoken. He sought out Purple Lace, and requested her help in advancing to the first sphere given that he believed he was fully prepared.

He solemnly swore, with sincerity, that he would not abuse the power which was given to him. As he had no plans of doing anything untoward, such an oath ran like water off of his tongue.

Reaching the first sphere was, however, only the first step in his process of growth. The second step involved the advancement of the arts he had mastered into another plateau. His conceptualized this as the equivalent of a sphere in regards to his Arts, which proved a useful analogy.

Fifth Dream and On

Once he had reached the first sphere, Yauch settled down considerably. Rather than focusing on gaining more power, he spent his time exploring the other areas of the dreams. The lost caves beyond the Umbric Plains, the Citadel through the Chasm of Souls. He met several interesting people, enjoyed splendid cooking, and learned of some heartbreaking stories.

Eventually, with the help of his Master, he was able to advance to the second sphere, learn even more arts, and explore even more profound concepts in regards to the nature of the dream.

For any new dreamer who might be reading the record, Yauch has two tips for you; firstly, ensure that acquiring power is but a means to help you in another mission, as it is with Alchemy for his self. Secondly, make sure to flatter your master!
