A Brief Primer on: "The Circle"

Post by Arnaya »

There have been several references in recent dreams to a group calling themselves "The Circle". Recently Eldryck Venym spoke to a few of us about this group. The following is what he revealed:

Purpose:
The Circle is comprised of the collective group of Dreamstrike Masters for the purpose of preventing abuse of the art.

Why:
Dreamstrike is probably foremost among the "Forbidden Knowledge". Knowledge that, once discovered, cannot be locked away again. The Codex of Immortal Dreams is the primary means of learning this art (Though not the only source), and these codi both cannot be destroyed (As the Alliance of the Eclipse discovered a bit over a year before the time of this writing) and cannot be locked away (They tend to shift and relocate themselves). Ensuring that the knowledge and ability of Dreamstrike will Never be completely eliminated. To prevent rampant use and abuse of this art, those who have mastered its use, have banded together to prevent such abuses.

Eldryck Venym warns that the Circle Members have some.. discretion... in regards to what constitutes abuse of the art. Though it is believed that events such as Kaer Gerroz's striking rampage during the Lyran era were the Reason for the formation and compact of the Circle.

What Compact:
The Compact between the Circle members is both the defining purpose of the group, and the bond that holds them together. It is the sworn agreement that they:
A) Will not Strike each other.
B) Will not Teach dreamstrike.
Basically, it boils down to the idea that those who have the power... have the responsibility to use it and regulate its use with integrity and respect for the power and the consequences of its use.

Who are the Circle:
There are apparently many that are bound to the circle, though many choose to remain hidden (and are likely unknown to our city). The ones that are willing to reveal themselves as members currently, are:
- Eldryck Venym
- Remulus (Deceased)
- Zar'tenya
- Xun'rok (Under internal investigation still)

Closing Notes:
From my conversations with members of the Circle, the following can be safely concluded (and for the most part, these points have been stated to me in one form or another, several times). The Circle does NOT exist to prevent people from gaining the knowledge of Dreamstrike. Merely to regulate How it is used and ensure that there are Consequences for abuse of its power. They are Not here to oversee or tell us how to dream, or demand that we behave this way or that (Beyond what any of us can demand in regards to treatment of ourselves, and their knowledge of the art provides a rather strong edge to such demands in regards to how they are to be treated personally). While they are generally aloof, it is strongly suggested that events like dreamstriking rampages will be met with their.... strong disapproval and judgement, though smaller events and ones where the striker can honestly and truly justify their actions as not an act of destruction, but of protection or defense, are unlikely to meet such consequences.

The most important lesson I've learned over this past year, is not to let anyone make you cruel. No matter how badly you want to give the world a taste of it's own bitter medicine, it is never worth losing yourself.
