The Sepulcher

Post by -Lacie- »

Many have walked the empty hall, stopped only perhaps by the occasional Bogram, who hides down in a slight culvert against the wall. Dispatched quickly, the traveler will usually continue along his or her own way unaware of the divine nature of the passage they have just traversed. Others of us know, however, the true nature of The Sepulcher.

The natural shape of the cavern tells most of the story itself. A long hallway, encased by two portals on one end, and a single exit at the opposite end. Do they know the meaning of such a design? Most likely not, for it is a sign for only the ones who seek a death most blissful and yet the result of a dramatic battle, suitable for the passing of a Soul from one existence... to another. This is the tale though, of The Sepulcher.

Buried deep within the Sewers of the Umbric Plane, another name whose meaning elude all but the most learned and knowledgeable of the nature of the City of Dreams, and the subject of a tale for another dream. Deep within, it may seem, but actually built up from the depths, to encase, protect and hide what lies deep within. A long passage, it seems, flanked on either side with pools of what might be considered a murky ooze of unsanitary contents. This is not the case, however, of The Sepulcher.

To enter the room with the utmost respect would be to cleanse the feet in the Waters of Clarity, which many have, leaving what can only be described as the evils and sins of what has been passed over and walked through in the distant past. To cleanse the feet and show reverence to the long UnderCroft, is to pay the highest respect to its contents. This would be why the Bogram remains where he rests. He may be of lesser nature, but even he knows how to honor; for the Bogram pays homage ... to The Sepulcher.

The Torches mark the area for those of lesser wisdom than the Beasts. Most crofts would be illuminated with mere candles made of stinking fat and lard. But here, the Torches brighten and send out a soft glaze of light, which produces Shadow upon Shadow, until the Vault is exposed, as if to scream out from the night ... "The Winds may swirl and the Lightening may Strike, but within this UnderCroft be entombed the Wisdom of honest and true Might." And if one spends enough time within this chamber, eyes half closed and mind Meditating, it just may see the signature along the edge of the water ... The Sepulcher.

Death comes to those who discover and unEarth the secret of this place, but not the death that mortals have come to know. Death, you see, is merely the passage from one realm, one existence, one perception of thought ... to another. When done correctly, death reveals the Wisdom of the Ages; when done improperly (as is done most often), yields nothing more than an empty Nothingness, void of Light, Dark and Shadow. For this is the secret, the mystery, the treasure ... of the Sepulcher.

One path with one portal; an opposite end with two choices. Do I dare enlighten as to what this might mean? Do I venture to explain to the masses what this actually reveals? Look to the names of the surrounding lands. Look up. Look down. Look within and then ... turn around. What do you See as your possible destiny? Can you See past your own hand, or will it take some great battle, some act of Sin to expose Redemption? Time will tell, it always does. This is the path, the magic, the Wisdom ... of The Sepulcher.
