Codex of Learning Archive

Post by Arnaya »

To preserve this information (and help some of them get read), A couple of us undertook a Codex of Learning gathering expedition to archive the CoL.

Thanks to Uthanatos, Dimitri Raith, and Rasputin for helping me compile all of these.

The Codi are broken into general catagories, if you find one that isn't on this list... please let me know either in the city or via pigeon and I'll add it to the list.

History:
1. The Vanezera of the Temple maintained that the Purge was not the end. He and the Walkers would fulfil their destiny.
2. The Dreamwright Aprilic saved Ariana by being imprisoned within the Corruptor of Souls.
3. Threshold was formed to push back the chaos of the unawakened and allow the awakened a place of peace.
4. The Dreamsmith Kelrith made a grave mistake when trying to call a new artifact into the dreamscape.
5. The majestic darkmare Tethu was first defeated at the Bridge of Memories in Basin of Stars.
6. The Sect of the Prudent and the Emancipators of Men were constantly at each others throats. Lit someone’s throat and expect to find a blade at your own.
7. The Codex of Immortal Dreams is a dreaded artifact rumored to have the power of Dreamstrike.
8. The binder is required for all the parts of the Codex of Immortal dreams to be joined together.
9. The Alteror of Jartan is a component of the Codex of Immortal Dreams.
10. Idoaclese brought the light of learning back to his dream city, and was well liked and trusted. Nevertheless, he was assassinated.
11. Yog-ka was convicted of the crime of murder for the slaying of Sabra, a fellow lyran. His trial was the first murder trial in the dream.
12. The bite of the foul darkmare Tehthu caused fever, chills, and sometimes involuntary conversion to nightmare form.
13. The dream city of Underlight was nearly destroyed in an event called the Great Loss. Do you know the story?
14. Evernight Plateau is burned and dark, but why?
15. The Lyceum was guided first by the wit and wisdom of Quijaimarii
16. The Yissen embraced their destiny and paid for it dearly. The greatest gifts are often inexorably linked to the greatest costs.
17. The princess found her power in the flames. The great flames of the volcano would see that throne in ruin. Lava, as it turns out, burns.
18. There were of their number, 13. Each of them was given great power, and each of them bound to a curse.
19. Dynroth was known for capturing and killing elder masters. Do you know which?
20. Ghea was the first dreamer to collapse Tethu after the foul darkmare entered the dream.
21. The First two houses to be rebuilt after the great loss were House Calenture and the Dreamers of Light.
22. The Emergence Academy was the longest standing house of the Idoaclesian dream.
23. A tower of light and one of dark. Fear not the tool - turn concern to the hand that wields the tool.

Philosophy:
1. Trust no one more than yourself.
2. If this is only a dream, then how can you be sure your dreaming.
3. Mind your desires, less they lead to your destruction.
4. Are darkmares intelligent? Are lesser mares mindless? What in the dream is evil?
5. Darkness is both friend and enemy.
6. Strength at arms and wariness are survival.
7. There is no accomplishment without Discipline.
8. The art to forge talismans does not a dreamsmith make.
9. Knowledge can be obtained with ease or through effort. Wisdom never comes easily.
10. Imagination leads to creation. Be mindful of what you create in case it gets away from you.
11. Passion rules reason. Keep your wits about you to keep yourself safe.
12. L is to K as W is to P. What does that mean?
13. Dream Wisdom: If you find yourself in a rift with a darkmare and do not wish to be collapsed, leave the rift.
14. What you despise about another, often teaches you about yourself.
15. When one monster is struck down, there is all too often another waiting to take its place.
16. Effort yields rewards, not words alone.
17. A question most often asked: Do our actions in the dream affect the waking world?

Maren:
1. Buurd Maxtra Katoke nos minit buurd itaka. (Translated: All Powerful Mare No understand all item)
2. Pow-Itaka isis itaka da eovoc dak krast maxtrika da katoke. Mu carnge pow-itaka, katoke. (Translated: Chakram is item for steal power of mare. You kill chakram, mare).
3. “Bogrom’s lair” isis arc vdere mu klopta intimni katoke bogrom. (Translated: “Bogroms Lair” is room where you are near mare bogrom.)

Talisman:
1. The first colors of a chakram determine its focus, and therefore which dreamers may use it.
2. The second colours of an alteror determine its effects. Blood brings Vision, Fire brings Resist fear, Gold brings Protection, Jade brings Free Action, and Teal brings Chamele.
3. Elemens which are tan, earth, or beige contain concentrated dose of the element known as Lucidity. Beware of cursed elemens for they drain the element.
4. Elemens which are Jade, Teal, or Gold contain concentrated doses of the element known as Will. Beware of Cursed elemens for they drain the element.
5. Elemens which are Berry, Plum, or Sand contain concentrated doses of the element known as Resilience. Beware of Cursed elemens for they drain the element.
6. Elemens which are Chalk, Blood, or Fire contain concentrated doses of the element known as Dreamsoul. Beware of cursed elemens for they drain the element.
7. Elemens which are Azure, Cyan, or Night contain concentrated doses of the element known as Insight. Beware of cursed elemens for they drain the element.
8. You have within you the power to create a focus blade, be it a Gatesmasher, Dreamblade, Soulreaper, or Fateslayer. Above all, this is a weapon you can always count on. As such, learn the use of it well.
9. Charms affect others and are not much help when your alone.
10. Chakrams are ranged weapons that are helpful to weaken or collapse a nightmare.
11. Shields absorb a percentage of the damage you suffer from an attack.
12. An alteror will affect the dreamer using it. There are good alterors, and there are cursed ones.
13. Great items of power, known as Artifacts, are loose in the dream. An artifact cannot be carried indefinitely, as a normal talisman can be.
14. The second colour of a chakram determines its power. Tan paralizes, Azure staggers, Berry poisons, Night deafens, Sand curses, Plum scares, and Beige blinds.
15. Your blade is your most elementary weapon. As with all weapons, it is never to be used against other dreamers except in self defence.

Dream Mechanics:
1. When you are a Soulsphere, you cannot cast any arts unless you use the art Soul Evoke.
2. Single Halo teachers seek out double-halo teachers to get high tasks to help non-teachers.
3. If you move through a portal, remember to step aside to keep dreamers entering after you from becoming trapped between you and the portal.
4. Guardians gain power when they initiate new dreamers into their house, but lose even more if an initiate leaves the house.
5. Every Dreamer has the ability to create a talisman with infinite charges. What is this item?
6. The arts of Trail and Know are invaluable to a new dreamer. Trail marks your path with small gems only you can see, and know tells you where you are.
7. When you are out of Dreamsoul, your avatar is collapsed. It is not a true death as a sanctuary can restore your coherence.
8. There are two basic mares you, as a new dreamer, will encounter: An emphant and a bogrom.
9. The Colour of a teachers halo indicates their focus. Gold halos are worn by Gatekeepers, Night by Dreamseers, Azure by Soulmasters, and Ruby for Fatesenders.
10. The Title of Master Teacher is the mark of a dreamer who’s progress in the arts is cutting edge. It is the responsibility of a Master Teacher to teach with honour what they have learned.
11. Teachers who have mastered their abilities wear a double halo.
12. The Chamele effect hides you until the duration expires, or you make an aggressive act.
13. Only those that have the Dreamsmith mark can teach the power of Forge Talisman.
14. Why is your focus in your arts list, and what does it mean?

City:
1. Teachers wear halo’s over their heads. If the halo is not on, the teacher is not teaching.
2. Not everyone will become a teacher.
3. Anyone can become a teacher if they are worthy.
4. Each of the 8 houses can be found by following the paths leading from Threshold.
5. In the Sanctuary of Lambent Flats, the waterfall runs upwards.
6. Only dreamers of the 2nd sphere or higher may enter the Cenotaph of Dread.
7. Horron is the most powerful nightmare in the city. Where is his nest?
8. Most portals marked with a glowing pole will lead you back to Threshold.
9. Only initiates can access the mission boards of their house.
10. What is the purpose of Illapse Keep on Mount Illapse?
11. What lies past the unmoving portals of the Ambiance?

The most important lesson I've learned over this past year, is not to let anyone make you cruel. No matter how badly you want to give the world a taste of it's own bitter medicine, it is never worth losing yourself.
