As Inquisitor of the Noctemira Recondite, I have taken it upon myself to assemble a detailed dossier on Ogithus, one of the most elusive and potentially perilous figures in the history given of Thornhaven, which for all intents and purposes, shall be what we call home. Known for his mysterious origins and his strategic prowess, Ogithus' impact on the Dream and the lives of countless dreamers is complex and layered, weaving through the annals of Thornhaven's darkest and most storied chapters. This record serves as both a warning and a resource—a compilation of verified events, past observations, and prevailing theories surrounding Ogithus' motives, abilities, and alliances.

Ogithus' story is not merely one of conflict; it is one marked by intricate power dynamics and a ruthless ambition that has left lasting imprints on both friends and foes alike. From his early rise alongside King Therimen, through the Shadowed Eras, to the fateful conflicts that reshaped Thornhaven, each event further unveils Ogithus' relentless pursuit of his ultimate aim. By capturing this knowledge, we hope to anticipate his actions, fortify our defenses, and prepare the Kingdom for whatever this shadowed adversary might yet bring upon the Dream.

Key Points of Interest:
Here are key points of interest about Ogithus, based on the scrolls written by the Steward and reports by various dreamers in the last few months-
  • Worship & Madness: Ogithus was a follower of Sydrah, the ancient God of Time and Space, which led him into madness. He channeled Sydrah's powers and became malevolent, wreaking havoc before ascending to the Divine Summit, now a place of torment. (Additional work is being done to substantiate this claim. Updates will be made should evidence point to there being an error. I get the sense that a document has gone missing or has been changed to perhaps hide something...)
  • Return & Threat: Ogithus is feared to have returned and is confirmed to be targeting elementals like Tavyn and Nugget, killing Tavyn in pursuit.
  • Power Obsession: His fixation on elemental orbs, likely to overthrow Sydrah and take his place, represents a significant danger to Thornhaven, with a potential interest in destroying or controlling its inhabitants.
  • Relationship with Cassimolair: He’s suspected to have been a “lackey” to Cassimolair, but their relationship is ambiguous, with Cassimolair fearing him.
  • Symbolic Intentions: Ogithus’s goals focus on seizing power and reshaping Thornhaven, dismissing concepts like balance in favor of dominance, with ominous intentions still unfolding.

Ogithus Timeline:
As we know it thus far-
  • Early Fascination and Ambition: Ogithus was a promising dreamer, highly interested in magic and the Primordial beings of elemental power. His curiosity evolved into a dangerous obsession with power, especially as he became more aware of the potential influence of beings like the God of the Void, Sydrah.
  • Alignment with Sydrah: Enticed by Sydrah's dark promises, Ogithus sought control over Thornhaven's mystical forces. He began hunting for the Primordial orbs, believing they could grant him the power to reshape Thornhaven according to his vision.
  • Conflict with King Therimen: King Therimen, alarmed by Ogithus’s growing influence and disregard for balance, challenged him. Ogithus dismissed Therimen’s caution, believing that raw power was the path to ultimate control.
  • The Battle and Therimen’s Fall: During a fierce battle, Ogithus, empowered by dark magic, clashed with Therimen. Using forbidden arts and the influence of Sydrah, Ogithus severed the king's connection to the orbs and dealt a fatal blow, claiming the orbs as his own and leaving the king mortally wounded.
  • Manipulation of Dark Magic: With Sydrah’s teachings, Ogithus continued to harness the power of the Void, bending dark magics to his will. He attracted followers who were similarly swayed by Sydrah’s promises, building a faction dedicated to his cause.
  • Return of Ogithus and the Pursuit of Elementals: Rumors, investigations, and rituals revealed Ogithus’s resurgence. He targeted the Elementals, especially those like Tavyn, Helga, Esmeralda, and Nugget, who were bearers of Primordial power, leading to several confrontations and tragic losses.
  • Destruction of Tavyn: In a pivotal vision, Tavyn was seen sacrificing herself to protect Nugget from Ogithus, who ultimately destroyed her soul essence in a display of power, potentially through the art of DreamStrike.
  • Further Threats and the Rise of Fear: Ogithus’s return incited fear throughout Thornhaven, leading to heightened precautions among dreamers and the formation of protective measures around vulnerable Elementals.
  • Cassimolair’s Connection: Ogithus’s motives and actions became intertwined with those of the Dreadspawn leader, Cassimolair. Cassimolair himself warned that Ogithus was actively hunting him, leading to greater caution among Thornhaven’s inhabitants. While this could be a ploy to place dreamers infront of himself as a distraction or shield, it does open the possibility of making the enemey of Thornhaven's enemy, our temprorary ally.
  • Continued Pursuit of Power: Ogithus’s ambition to control all of Thornhaven persisted, his motives indicating a desire not just for personal dominance but also for the destruction or complete transformation of the city under his will.

Under Further Investigation:
Immediate questions as well as some answers that have been found recently-

How did Ogithus lose control of the orbs back in the time of King Therimen?
  • "As dark energy surged through the battlefield, Therimen faltered, weakened by the overwhelming power of Sydrah's influence. In that moment, Ogithus delivered the fatal strike, claiming the orbs and leaving the once great king mortally wounded" - Chapter 3: The Rise of Ogithus and death of the King - Penned by the Steward
This does imply that Ogithus successfully obtained the orbs. He used the orbs’ power to deal a fatal blow to King Therimen, leaving him gravely injured and solidifying Ogithus's control over the orbs in that moment. If that is true, how did he lose the orbs and they end up in possession of Tavyn, Helga, Nugget, and Esmeralda?
  • ANSWER: "Horrified by what was happening, Esmeralda gathered a few of her friends, they decided to sneak into Ogithus’s stronghold to steal back the orbs in a desperate attempt to end his tyranny. They believed that the magic of the orbs was intended for creation, not destruction.

However, they hadn’t anticipated the powerful safeguards the Primordial had placed upon the orbs when they were originally made. As they grabbed an orb, the magic contained within surged into them, draining Ogithus's grasp and transforming the four into halflings. In a flash of blinding light, they were transported to the far corners of the Kingdom, each to a location rich in elemental energy.
    - Chapter 4: Chaos in the Garden of Life - Penned by the Steward
It appears that Ogithus had the upper hand, how and why did he go back into hiding after mortally wounding the King?
  • ANSWER: A sustainable source of energy had to be found to allow him to meet his goals. This much is clear from the passage below:

"As Ogithus consumed the last remnants of energy from the Garden of Life, he realized that this finite power would not last. Desperate for more, he began to look beyond Thornhaven, embarking on a campaign of terror across neighboring lands. His name echoed in hushed whispers, a shadow of fear that lingered in the minds of those who remembered the prosperity of Thornhaven before his rise.

Meanwhile, in the quiet of Thornhaven, a sense of peace began to return. The citizens no longer feared Ogithus. They believed he was merely a fading nightmare, one they could confront and overcome together. Fueled by hope and determination, they prepared to reclaim their city from the darkness that threatened to consume it.

As the garden withered and the city fell deeper into despair, the hearts of Thornhaven's citizens ignited with a newfound strength. They recognized that their unity was their greatest weapon against Ogithus and the chaos he had unleashed."

We have small pieces of information about how the proctective barrier around Thornhaven is maintained (through the tithing of energy from the Strongholds), but are there additional defenses that were in place that are not in use currently?
  • ANSWER: No available data at this time.
How is the Void different form the Chaos?
  • ANSWER: Information gathered from my younger dreams always taught that the chaos was an ocean of unordered energy that was manifested by the thoughts and emotions of the unawakened. Documents state that the Void is a different "thing", perhaps element? energy? substance? It appears to be of its own Realm, totally separate from the Chaos itself.

"Sydrah is an ancient being with an unknown origin that dwells within the realm of the Void. The Void is a place within another realm of the Dream that draws power from the Rifts. Many dreamers have attempted to find it and travel there, but none were successful and the few who came close were never seen again. Through the ages of the Dream there's mention of Sydrah all the way back to the earliest of records in some cities." - Chapter 1: The Rise of Thornhaven and the Fall of Cassimolair - Penned by the Steward
