Patch Day Saturday, June 11

Post by Koi-Spark »

I am very happy to announce that we are planning our next patch day for Saturday, June 11. We will be announcing a specific time later on, but it will be in the early afternoon (US eastern time).

While I would love to include dozens of new content features that you can discover in-game, you all probably know that there was one primary focus for this particular patch: Windows 8 and Windows 10 compatibility.

This announcement is bittersweet, as you already know. The man who worked to bring these changes to our community, James Hite, passed away in May and is not here to experience the satisfaction he earned in a job well done. It is a heartbreaking and tragic loss and the entire community has expressed condolences and well wishes for his family. On behalf of all of us, thank you to James for his contributions and efforts. We could not have done this without you.

Here are the patch notes for Saturday:
  • Underlight is now Windows 10 compatible, and still backwards compatible to Windows XP.
All of the menus, interface buttons, chat box, and item dragging are all looking pristine as they were intended. No more black boxes, no more disappearing acts. Everything works!
  • The Underlight client can now be minimized without penalty.
While we have not yet implemented a complete windowed mode, this is the next best thing. There is no shortcut key for minimizing, but you can use Alt+Tab or the Windows Key on your keyboard to minimize Underlight, then just click it on the taskbar or Alt+Tab back to it to open it again. Be warned: minimizing does not make you invincible, invisible, or otherwise immune from attack. Use caution and minimize only when you're in a sanctuary. Also, it doesn't disable the idle timeout, so if you're minimized for too long (about 15 minutes), you will be kicked out. Lastly, be courteous to other players. Roleplaying gets rather mundane when you talk to a blank stare. It's much better when everyone is actively participating.
  • The dreaded "Whisper Bug" has been killed.
After our last patch, people were having issues crashing when whispering to other players for a little while. We did a rollback of a few back-end things to hide the bug for a while, but we have managed to hunt it, capture it, kill it, and skin it. The bug's skin is now framed above my fireplace.
  • Fixed an issue where posting on the library mission boards would cause a crash.
Yup, killed that bug, too. Happy to do it. I regret nothing.
  • Fixed an issue where modifying your avatar or turning the avatar in the You tab would cause a crash.
All these dead bugs are starting to pile up. I need a Roomba. Please donate so we can buy a Roomba to clean up dead bug carcasses. They're starting to stink.
  • Fixed an issue with Quest assigning the wrong student if the teacher whispered during the Quest evoke.
For all you busy multi-taskers out there, you can now whisper to others while you're writing a Quest and not have to worry about having to write it all over again. Hopefully this makes being completely swamped with work a little easier on you!
  • Minor adjustments to various interface windows (e.g. Forge Talisman).
It's for aesthetics. If you're going to be able to see stuff again, might as well make them a little bit prettier.
  • PMares are now immune to Poison.
    FYI, so are Dark Mares.
  • Some surprise additions for the Zaxun invasion roleplay.
Please try to remain calm. Move loose objects and furniture inside your favorite sanctuary. Maybe decorate a little to make it feel more like home. There's a storm coming, so you may be spending a lot more time in there.
  • Credits updated.
Among other changes, we made sure James Hite was listed as a member of the development team. Thanks, James.
As always, if you have questions about the patch, run into issues updating on patch day, or run into new bugs after updating, please let us know. We're in IRC, on these forums, or e-mail us.

It is important that all players download the new installer from http://download.underlight.com when patching. The new installer will remove registry entries for Win8 and Win10 compatibility, which are no longer needed.

We'll be ready in just a few minutes. Enjoy!
