Character Development

Post by Voxaroth »

1) Nobody likes a constant victim, nobody likes a constant hero. Everyone likes a balanced personality that, on occasion, gets to be both.

2) For every battle you win, make sure you lose another just so people know your character has flaws and is interesting. Everyone needs to rise to success and fall from grace.

3) Allow for unexpected stuff to happen to you. The more preconceived your plans are coming into the game, the more likely you are to completely miss all the potential wonders that crop up.

4) Small quirks are cute. Constant quirks are sense-assaultingly annoying. If people aren't into it, don't beat it to death.

5) Stuff evolves slowly. Have PATIENCE. You'd be surprised how many people take themselves out of something in frustration, only to find that it materialized the way they wanted days later (without them).

4.a) Don't be afraid of letting your character show fear. Fear can drive a lot of great things. Being "fearless" is all well and good in theory but it makes for a boring character that may as well be ignored.

Lie often. When it's revealed it makes conflict, and while you're lying you live large in the perks of whatever web you weave. People lie all the time. Your character is allowed to as well.
