An interesting question.....

Back in the Lyra/MPlague days, we had to RP that something was there and thru the advancement of software and our excellently creative GM team, they have made it possible for us to actually SEE something mysterious, new or otherwise where it wasn't before.

I can remember trying to rp about a ~thing~ in the City that could not literally be seen. It was hard when someone walked in and had not seen the raw emote about the object or situation. Now, you can SEE it and make your own conclusions about it and then adjust your roleplay about it as you see fit. It includes others more and brings interest to the game.

Anyasha was completely freaked out about how the Qzer Kotoke was able to manipulate the ward the other night. She kept whispering to me about how she was mesmerized by the literal actions going on. It wasn't just the Mare standing there raw emoting, but things actually happened visually. It seemed to impress her a lot. Made me feel really great that her character's experience was enriched.

I am quite impressed and proud of the UL community's response to the mysterious goings on around the City. Everyone doesn't roleplay to the same degree, which is fine, but everyone does have a reaction and even the folks that don't like to rp that much were roleplaying more than usual. The GM team deserves a lot of credit for this, but there are quite a few regular dreamers who really take these mysterious "Chaos Eclipse" happenings and effects to a much greater level than they ever did (by way only of someone writing a description of what was happening to such and such wall or whatever, in the forums) back in the Lyran era.

Returning players as well as the new will hopefully be equally amazed and inspired to go out there and create their own roleplays, which it is the WHOLE goal of Underlight!

Very interesting reply, I do see what you are referring to, do you think that if all the elder dreamers were to return...by chance that it would greatly effect the dream or just keep it all kosher? Plus since the days of Mplayer, do you feel that with the credit given to Lyra Studios back in the day, that the current owners really do keep the name of UL up to par?
sometimes i do and sometimes not.

I think, personally, that making a direct comparison of the various incarnations (Lyran/Elder/SoT/Clash of Dreams) is somewhat unfair. Each has its own charm and its own personality. Right now the biggest strength is that it is built up according to needs and isn't based on a business model. On the other hand there are less resources to a
handle the needs and requests and a good portion of out player base has to do double duty as GM/Players. I love how we all interact and the stories move much quicker.

I think there are things we do now that they would have loved to see back in the late 90's but were hampered by a lot of restrictions that required "customer" attention ad opposed to the more modern "community member" dynamic. Conversely, I am sure there are a few from our beloved GM and Dev team who would love to have a few full time employees at their disposal (but they are expensive.) I think what we have is wonderful and while I reminisce like the rest of the UL fogies about not being able to remember half the players names you would encounter in a night - everyone is very dedicated to the community (which I believe creates a little more respect and appreciation...generally speaking.)
